Division 01 · Accounting & Tax

Compliance done properly. Structuring done early.

Most accountants report what happened. We spend our time on what is about to happen — the structure you buy in, the tax position before 30 June, and the capital gains outcome that decides what your business is really worth when you leave it.

Services

Everything a business needs from its accountant — and the parts most skip.

Engage us for the full annual cycle, or for one decision that has to be right.

01

Entity & group structuring

Trust, company, partnership or a combination — chosen against your income, your family, your lending and the exit you expect, not just this year’s tax bill. We restructure existing groups where the original set-up no longer fits.

  • New business and acquisition structures
  • Bucket company and trust distribution strategy
  • Restructures and rollovers
  • Ownership rules for regulated sectors
02

Tax planning before year end

A position modelled in April and May, while the levers are still available to pull — prepayments, timing of income and deductions, distributions, super contributions and asset purchases.

  • Pre-30 June planning meeting
  • Estimated liability and cash plan
  • Distribution modelling
  • Instant asset write-off and depreciation review
03

Annual compliance

Financial statements, income tax returns and the year-end work for every entity in the group, prepared consistently so lenders, buyers and the ATO all see the same numbers.

  • Financial statements for each entity
  • Company, trust, partnership and individual returns
  • Division 7A loan management
  • Consolidated group view
04

BAS, payroll & obligations

GST, PAYG withholding, payroll and superannuation handled on time, every time, so obligations never quietly become liabilities. Award interpretation where wages are your biggest cost.

  • BAS and IAS lodgement
  • Payroll and Single Touch Payroll
  • Super guarantee compliance
  • Payroll tax and workcover registrations
05

Capital gains & concessions

The small business CGT concessions can remove most or all of the tax on a business sale — but only if eligibility is tested early and protected. We map your position years before it matters.

  • 15-year exemption and 50% active asset reduction
  • Retirement exemption and rollover
  • Property and investment CGT
  • Eligibility testing and record-keeping
06

Succession & family transfer

Moving a business or assets to the next generation, a partner or an employee without triggering avoidable tax or family friction. Done properly, it is a plan with dates, not a conversation that keeps being postponed.

  • Staged ownership transfer
  • Family trust and estate interaction
  • Buy-in arrangements for staff
  • Coordination with your estate planner
07

ATO matters & reviews

Payment arrangements, objections, reviews and correspondence handled calmly and early. Problems disclosed and managed are almost always cheaper than problems discovered.

  • Payment plans and remission requests
  • Review and audit support
  • Voluntary disclosures
  • Debt and lodgement catch-up
08

Management reporting

Monthly or quarterly numbers you can actually run the business on — reconciled, compared against the right benchmarks and explained in plain language.

  • Monthly management accounts
  • Cashflow forecasting
  • Budget versus actual
  • Cloud accounting set-up and training
Our approach

The best tax outcome is usually decided before the transaction.

Most tax problems are structural, and structural problems are cheapest to fix before you sign. That is why our accounting work starts with the question most firms never ask: what do you expect this business, or this asset, to look like when you eventually sell it, hand it over or retire from it?

Because our accountants sit alongside the firm’s brokers, advisers and valuers, the structure we recommend has already been tested against how a lender will assess it, how your super and personal wealth will be affected, and how a buyer will see it. That cross-check is the reason the firm exists.

  • Structures tested against lending, wealth and exit — not just this year’s return
  • Tax planning meetings held before year end, not after
  • Senior people do the thinking; nothing is left to a graduate to interpret
  • Fixed, agreed fees for compliance work where scope is clear
How an engagement works

Whether you are moving your whole group across or asking about a single decision, the first steps are the same.

Common questions

Questions about moving your accounting

Yes. We request the prior-year files and working papers from your previous accountant through the standard professional clearance process. Most transfers are complete within a few weeks and nothing needs to be lodged twice.

Yes. Pharmacy is where our sector knowledge is deepest, but we act for medical and allied health practices, trading businesses of all kinds, property investors and private clients.

Compliance work is quoted as a fixed annual fee once we understand the number and complexity of your entities. Advisory and restructuring work is quoted per project before it starts. You will not receive an invoice for work you did not agree to.

Our accounting division can prepare SMSF accounts and handle the fund’s tax obligations. Advice on whether to establish an SMSF, or on investments within it, is financial product advice and is provided separately through Hedley Capital under AFSL 499010.

Of course. Many clients keep existing advisers. We will share information with them on your instruction, and tell you honestly if we think a different arrangement would serve you better.
